hi,
the 300tdi started missing about 2 weeks ago and has been getting steadily worse especially at low revs... after changing the filter i changed an obviously weak lift pump but to no avail.. checked the diesel tank pipes and all ok except i have noticed that the filler cap is a little difficult to remove with a kind of vacume type effect being generated in the tank... it's a wierd one, but arent they all...

didn't check that as wasn't aware of it... any quick info.. ? i did however notice that there was very little diesel coming from the return pipe..

On mine it runs up along the filler pipe. You can get at it from the offside rear wheel arch.

Yea as Grunt said check the breather, sounds like the tank is creating a vaccum so the fuel is not being drawn through well, low reves especially as the lift pump its not working as fast/hard.

I found and cleared the breather which has stopped the vacume effect, thank you guys, but the fu***ng missing has however not stopped.. I think it might be time for the injector pump man to do his thing as i may as well be looking into a field as looking at a pump...

Hi Petie, does the engine sound more "knocky" on tickover? this happened to my 300tdi, and im afraid it was a pump rebuild:(

yeah, it is actually 'knockie' on tickover, was a bit worried at first until i figured it was a diesel problem... I fear you could be right on the pump front and i have it booked in with a pump man tomorrow afternoon... will post the results... thanks tor that...
