hi there, just weighing up the option of putting a 300tdi in an old n/a.

i understand that the gearbox in the n/a (LT77? which gearbox is the 200tdi one? R380, cant remember which way round it is!) wont fit the 300tdi? would the 300tdi gearbox fit into the tunnel? are there any other massive mods that i will need to do? im alright with tools so should be able to do most things..
cheers

200tdi=lt77,300tdi =r380. You can fit 300set up in but you will have to do some extra work as the engine sits a lot further forward and tunnel is different. Best use the 300 engine with the lt77, you have to swap over the rear flywheel housing to marry up to bellhousing and fabricate or make some new chassis brackets for the engine mounts

well i would have a disco donor car, so would have an r380 ( ;-) cheers) going spare. would the r380 fit the lt77 gearbox mounts? or would i need to fab new engine and gearbox mounts to do that?
cheers

My 90 has an lt77 with a retrofit disco 300tdi, the engine sits a lot further back, than standard so all the rad/intercooler hoses have to be extended along with the oil cooler. Steve Parkers sell all the bits you need to convert it but it's a very expensive solution, you can fabricate/modify for a lot less money. Mine had the 300 mounts welded to the chassis before i bought it, gearbox hasn't been moved/changed so no problems with propshafts.

The only major problem is that not all the bellhousing to engine bolts mate up, you could either tap new holes in the existing components or fit a different bellhousing (i can't remember which one it is but i'm sure somebody else will ) )

Have a look in the 300tdi section, somebody is doing a conversion atm.

Let me know if you want some pictures.

Rubbish 300tdi is a straight forwards swap just change flywheel housings over and fabricate new front engine mount. everything else is a straightforwards fit.

Try looking here. http://www.thewinchesterclub.co.uk/landrover_110_engine_page.htm full step by step conversion.
