I looked at the excellent posts on here about feeing off the diff lock levers and got my 99 300tdi up on the ramps and freed the rusty levers off . I particularly liked the utube vids" diff locks last stand" ,I can sympathise with the chaps views .
Anyway ,got it all freed off ,when I push over the gear knob into diff lock it stays put and the light comes on but when I look underneath ,I can push the lever that rotates on top of the box , a bit further over with a screwdriver, from underneath the vehicle .
Am I right in assuming that the gear knob moves it sufficient to engage diff lock and that the extra bit I can move it with a screwdriver isn't needed ? the linkeages don't appear bent or excessively worn .
It will be months before I can try it out on snow and by then if it isn't actually locking the centre diff it will be a problem . Any bright ideas to check if the centre diff is actually locked ?
