Morning all.
Got a 300tdi which when running is fine but when turned off leaks fuel from the cambelt cover. I assume the seal at the front of the pump is buggerd.
Can that seal be changed? Or do I need a pump

Highly likely to be the front seal on the pump. If so, it is replaceable... consensus seems to be get a Viton seal fitted.
Also possibly best done by someone with the correct tools - but depends on how confident you are. if you search on here, you will probably find the thread where another member paid £20 to have a new viton seal pressed in by a diesel injection specialist...

Yep, front seal gone on FIP.
It's a diy job if you're handy and there is a cheapy tool which enables pump removal without stripping out the timing case BUT...strip it out cos diesel and timing belts don't mix and it needs changing to be safe.

About £40 or £50 notes for a diesel specilist to put in a viton for you.

Youll need to do the cam belt too.

Thanks guys. Where do I get this viton seal from?
Will be doing a cambelt kit anyway as think it's over due! And thankfully I'm. Very handy with the spanners

Setting the pump timing after replacing the seal is the hard part as there is no keyway on the pump output shaft.
read up on it before diving in.

I've just done some work on my 300Tdi pump, bought a factory Bosch complete seal, "o"ring and washer kit for $20 Au, that does not amount to many pounds in your money, but the bits are readily available. I agree with marksx getting it all set up back on the engine will be the most difficult part of the job, but with care, doable.
