Hi Guys,

Have searched the forum and cannot find an answer to this one - Assistance appreciated!

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can you adjust the tension of the fan belt if it has a tensioner fitted? My fan belt is very slack and now kippered so need to get a new one, just want to make sure I can adjust it.

The car is a 1989 Defender running a 1997 Discovery 300TDI engine, auto transmission and axles.

Thanks all!

it is you may need a new tensioner or the right belt they are 2 slightly different lengths as later use a shorter belt as alt pulley is smaller to speed up alt drive

as said its a auto tensioner and as James said 2 different belts fitted, measure your existing one,put a ratchet on the tensioner and using a long bar over it lift the tensioner up,you can then remove your belt and check it

Hey guys, thanks so much for the steers - I'll get some bits ordered tomorrow for it :)
