Hi guy's
I have read an advert somewhere that had a pipe that replaced centre box on exhaust but am struggling to find it again. Not sure if it was for Tdi or V8. Is there such a pipe???

Hi, just thought I would share my observations;

I have removed the Catalytic converter from my 300Tdi, they made some from the factory without, and a front pipe is available without the Cat in it, I think this will fit to the standard system. Didnt know this at the time, so I cut mine out and welded in a piece of straight pipe. Seems to help with power in the lower revs.

At a later date I made a mid box replacment straight through pipe, with this fitted the noise inside and out was horrendous, I soon replaced the mid box.

I would tend to be a little cautious about replacing the mid box with a straight pipe. With the Cat out it has a little more growl without being intrusive. Not sure exactly on the technicalities of removing the Cat on a diesel, but mine still passes the MOT without it fitted.

Hope thats of some help for you.

thanks for the info will look into this one a bit more deeply i have damaged middle box several times when off roading, but managed to repair for mot! will have a look at paddocks as have the disco has its name on it!!!!!!!!!!:)

i asked the guy who does my mot who is a landy nut himself if he would pass it without the cat fitted and he said no, unless it came out of the factory without a cat fitted as standard it should not pass an mot

Hello

I fitted a stainless sports systemto my 200tdi which removed the centre box I recomend this to all.The disco now has a nice raspy sound and you can notice the difference in performance ( but be realistic it is a heavy old beast) I get around 32mpg and it is useful off road with a bit extra low down torque.

This info is Wrong.It only applies to petrol engines.You can take the cat out of a 300 tdi and still pass MOT.Mine did :D

Yeah mine passed an MOT without the cat on aswell its not a legal requirement on diesels. And i have a middle box replacement pipe and back box on its way from paddock for £41!

on a 300tdi it is more a particulate filter than a true cat.

I'd have thought so Ratty.

I called up my local main dealer the other day to see if they did replacement flexi hoses that join the downpipe to the cat. They didn't, but 'cat' replacement, including the flexi pipe was under £300. If that was a proper cat, then it seems quite cheap to me?
