Hi everyone, i started rebuilding the new head for my 300tdi disco, all valves and springs fitted ect and all sensors changed over, also port and polished. the issue im having is that im using the injectors from the old head, 3 of which came out fine but injector number 4 ( rear injector as you look at it) it totally siezed, tried head and tried penetration spray but theres is no movement whatsoever, so i have accepted i need to buy a new injector but the issue is that the injector has a wire coming off of it indicating my car has EDC?? and im lead to believe the injectors for these are rare as rocking horse proverbial.... anyone know where can i get one? (it needs to have the wire with the plug on the end)

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick, when you say it's seized, do you mean you can't remove it from the head; or is it seized in some other way?

As this is an electronic injector perhaps it won't do what you expect until it has some volts attached?

Incidentally, the easiest and surest way to establish if the engine is EDC is as follows:

1. Does it have a Bowden cable accelerator pedal or an electrical cable?

2. Does it have a Mass Airflow meter in the air inlet plastic piping between the airfilter box and the turbo?

Lots of peeps on here have turned their EDC cars into manual pump ones for the reason you mention - rarity of injector no.4 plus the ability to tune the manual pump at no cost to gain more power.

Might just be worth thinking about?

The last TDi that I had (sold a couple of months ago) was converted and after a good service and tune-up she went very well.

Hi Dave, yes the injector is actually seized in the head so i cant remove it and transfer it over to the new head, the other 3 come out absolutely fine!

Yes the car is deffo fly by wire so im pretty positive it is EDC, to be honest im not fussed about "more power" or "tuning" i just want the bloody thing to work lol. what is involved in turning it into a 'Manual pump' system and what sort of cost should i expect to do it for?

I had the exact same trouble with my edc and injector 4. bit the bullet and bought an injector puller and after soaking in diesel and a few tries it did pop out

Well I'd rather not just because I want to get it skimmed and tested then sell it on, hopefully get the money back for the new cylinder head.

Nick

if you are taking it to an engineering place to get it skimmed, then they can take it out no problem.

Just had a reply from the shop on eBay telling me that "it will work". Can anybody on here confirm that?

I'm pretty sure the moment that goes in my engine the warranty will be void!

personally, i'd be tempted to see how much faffing it is to go manual. kiss

edit: i'm not blowing you a kiss! keep it simple.. etc ;)
