Hi everyone!

Had a bit of a situation today with my 300Tdi Disco. It didn't want to start, or even turn over, completely dead. All the usual lights came on the dash when the ignition was turned on, but nothing out of the starter. I suspected a faulty starter solenoid, so I replaced it as I had a brand new one lying in the garage. Still nothing.
While being towed home, I turned the key out of curiosity, and it fired up!
I think it's the immobiliser, but my main concern is that it's a EDC model. Can it be bypassed by running a wire from the starter solenoid to the starter relay?

Cleaned up all the connections and relevant earth wires and put a bit of grease to stop moisture. This happened three times in the last year.

I know someone who would say "three times ... only ?"

seems rather difficult to find the actual cause, just clean shake and tweak every connector, then apply grease or even moisture sealant varnish, etc

and keep ready for another session some time later

I'm confident in doing almost all mechanical work to a Land Rover, but when it comes to the electrics I'm no good! :)

Do you think that running a wire from the starter solenoid to the starter relay would work? I did a search on my topic but couldn't find a solution. Some people say that the imobiliser in a EDC model is in the ECU. New one of those? :(

Next time it happens enter the access code via the drivers door lock, if then the engine fires up you will know that the immobiliser is the problem.

Being an auto, it willl only start in park and neutral. There is an interupter switch on the gear box, it could be faulty. Next time check if your reverse light works ( it is the same switch ) and move the gear change lever a few times. It is more likely this switch or a faulty solenoid on the starter. The immobiliser is part of the EDC ECU. and it does not have a spider. Regards Jonathan

I don't have the access code (EKA) which you would enter via the drivers door lock. I can't find it in my vehicle documentation, and I don't think I ever had it. That would be a good test of knowing if the immobiliser is the problem.
Reverse lights work normally. New starter solenoid fitted yesterday.

A land Rover main dealers service dept. will tell you from the VIN you will need proof of ownership.
