Hi guys im after some advice again.ive just had a recon gearbox transfer main gear,clutch fitted.since ive got it back the box is sweet but ive got a bad juddering when setting off,and changing diwn a gear.ive been back to the garage and i said i believe its clutch judder i didnt blame them but i asked if the part could be faulty.he said he diubts it but after a test drive he said its nothing to worry about.hes told me to run it for a bit.if it gets worse take it back and he will have a look but he did say that it cant be anything theyve done.he said he will gladly investigate it but i could end up with a bill.i told him ive had the car 7 years and its never done this.all he said was if i had a pound for every time he had been told that hed be a very rich man.im skint now ive just parted with just under a grand.can anyone shed any light on this for me.

Yes they supplied all parts and i saw the old and new.i specificly asked him not to put a crap clutch in.as i had a good one put in 2 years ago but he said it was a crime not to change it due to the bix coming out.i saw my old clutch but funnily enough i never saw the new clutch but i did see my old one.
 
Sorry yes i mean the input gear and its cross drilled.box was changed as i couldnt get second the box sounded like a bag of bolts.the main shaft and gear was shot on its last legs.
 
sonded like a bag of bolts ? changing input gear would only cure clunk on drive take up ,did intermediate gear have freeplay ,is input gear shimmed correctly (not too tight or loose),any fault is theres to put right ,admittedly how are you going to know ,but is it clutch judder or ?
 
My old box had all the problems.the new bow feels and sounds fine.its a full recon box with 12 month warranty.the juddering is only when ur releasing the clutch and sometimes the hole car shakes.when slowing down dropping gears if you blip the throttle it does do it if u just brake and drop a gear with no throttle it dies it.its not as bad the longer the car is used mainly up to the first half hour then it slowly stops.as for the shimming i dint know.the old box had a lot wrong with it.input gear.main shaft splines.bearings.syncros.and a major amount of play.
 
ive now noticed when i was under the car whilst my son was taking up drive that the front prop judders whilst the drive is taken but the rear prop doesnt.the garage are being complete a..holes.i was recommended to use these as they are suppose to be excellent with landrovers and they are a specialist
 
If its only the front juddering, could it be just the front prop or diff?

Could take off the front prop then drive a short distance to see if the juddering is gone.

the juddering seems to be from the transfer box to the diff but the rear prop doesnt judder its wierd and damn annoying,the strangest thing is it does it worse for the first 10 mile or so then it doesnt seem as bad but its far from as it should be,ive put alot of money in to this car from day one ive had it nearly 8 years and im ready for blowing it up im really stressed with this at the mo,im also thinking of getting trading standards involved with the garage.
 
Check all 4 propshaft universal joints. Any free play I would replace. Typical prob with the UJs is more obvious under load, when slowing down (perhaps at a gear change) and often smooths out above 40 mph
