hi there, my mate has 1 300tdi and his clutch is miles smoother and lighter than mine (td with 200tdi), i have changed everything for new except the master and slave cylinder so should be in reasonable working order..

the reason i ask is cos my master cylinder is ****ing out, so was wondering if there is a difference in part numbers that i could use? im not too fussed about it being heavy, but while i am changing bits, if i can get it smooth and light i would like to!

I believe the lightness in the 300tdi clutch comes from the overcentre cam spring on the pedal... I might be wrong though.

ahhh makes sense.. it does feel like it lightens as it moves down. might seek out a pedal arm then or will i need a box too?

just bought one off there for 32 posted ;-)

cheers fella, looking forward to a nice soft clutch!

the one i bought is used, is it worth putting a new master cylinder on anyway? might just try it and see first.

is it a good idea to replace the gasket between that and the footwell too? or are they fairly re-useable?

ta!

If you have the whole lot apart I would change out the master and slave for genuine lucus parts. Depends when you last did this though.

If the gasket is good then reuse it, if not it should only be a few pence to replace.

ahh will replace the gasket anyway..

i haven't changed either an i dont have anything that suggests it has.. hmm, will see how much of a rush i am in. im using a master cylinders worth of fluid a day now.. not great!
