remove t/c and check pump drive tabs, t/c should be fully fitted into box thats 2 sets of splines and pump drive, then measure distance of outer face of t/c securing lug to bell housing face, then measure rear most face of drive plate to rear engine face, the former should be a mm or 2 bigger than the latter not more or less, t/c can be adjusted by shims between boss and crank, also unbolt drive plate and check it

Please forgive my lack of ignorance as I have never worked on an autobox.

As seen form the above pictures the torque converter is attached to the flywheel
Im assuming its bolted from the between the fly & tc…..

Is this why I have no drive or it common for it to be attached this way as I thought it should be locked
onto the gear box ??

Just waiting on my pain killers to kick in so I can roll about underneath it.

theres an inspection hole on rear of engine housing and you rotate t/c with a bar on front crank pulley till the 4 securing bolts come into view you need a 13mm socket, locktite the bolts when you re-fit ,when you align one of the 4 bolt holes on the drive plate with inspection hole then pry t/c round with a screw driver or small pointy bar, each of the 4 holes is on a lug so you know when your near,t/c must be fully located in the box and its depth measured so its greater by a mm or 2 than drive plate protrudes

your supposed to undo the 4 t/c bolts before pulling box off

"Smashing" thank you sir ;)

Now its out I have metal filings in the converter id say its well toasted & god knows what
condition of the rest of the gearbox will be in after having no oil in it

whats the lugs on t/c tube look like and pump lugs in the bell housing, has it been with no oil that would effect box pimp and t/c shouldnt have hurt box unless vehicle was been towed with hi low in gear

thats the issues then ,t/c might well be ok, to fix box youd need to stand on rear end with some wood blocks under pto cover so it stands level ,then undo bell housing bolts and remove bell housing then pump housing, pump casing can then be unbolted from housing, ive probably got some pump gears or another assembly

Ok im on it :) im off to get a pal who will help me shift the unit from under the motor & get it stripped.
Thanks for your help James much appreciated ;)

just remove bell housing but only once stood on its end so as not to disturb the clutch packs etc

if the housing is not damaged you need a pair of gears o ring gasket and seal

It looks like I might need a full pump there is a little scoring on the housing where the lugs have been
getting ground up like coffee beans.

I had to down tools yesterday as the old chap next door has taken ill so everything else went out the window.
