usually the switch,if you can get at the connector and bridge the 2 pins on the loom side if lights come on switch needs replacing

Ok cheers will clean connector and test the circuits but if it's the switch I refuse to pay £280 for a new one have no idea why it's soooo expensive after all it's just a simple switch.i tried today to separate it but no room to get my hands in there will have to drop the downpipe to create more space.

So it's taken me a year to get round to fixing this glad to report switch is ok I have voltage on the loom to the switch but can't get them to come on with the connector bridged.both lights work for months then pack in for a while then start working again.any ideas where to look now?

Ok so u have found 12v to the switch, have u checked continuity through the switch with the selector in position R? thats between the yellow and green/brown wire terminals at the plug, then if ok the next place to look at is the joint where the wiring branches off to both reverse lamps and trailer socket, I expect the joint will be somewhere in the void at the rear the o/s rear lamp, similar to the stop/tail lamp wiring... but who knows.
Of course u could check continuity directly from green/brown at the plug socket through the loom to the bulb holder therefore bypassing the joint.

Can confirm power to switch and switch is working have no power to reversing lights on rear or trailer sockets.
On the diagram what are c323-3 c105-4 and c277-1 are they connector blocks or just a body work ref points.
If they are connector blocks as there is a feed to the rear view mirror would assume that will be inside dash and n/s kick panel?.

Those are connectors. for example C323-3 means the wire is in pin 3 . If you have the PDF electrical troubleshooting manual there is a section named "connectors" in it , go into that and click on those you want to see the location and pinout

Unfortunately I do not and my tablet's memory is full (tho it isn't and I'm far to old to explain let alone understand why) I'll track the wire back from the switch hopefully I'll find the bad connection.

Fantastic I now know where to look and as a bonus Mia wants to have online sex with me :D must be my lucky day.

Thanks for the help everyone now have reversing lights again the problem was connector c277 behind the glove box just a bad connection.
