anyone any ideas please, the engine on my 300 tdi was rebuilt less than 2000 miles ago recieving new cylinder head etc, since the rebuild the engine has performed faultlessly, when on the move the temp goes up to around the half way mark and the heater blows nice and warm, however when stood still just ticking over the temp steadily drops and the heater blows colder and colder which is not good in this weather, please help, cheers

cheers dave , at last a sensible answer, although the 'stat was replaced when the engine was rebuilt!!!!!

tis amazing how brave one can be when it's not face to face. temp takes less than a minute to drop off bottom of gauge, yours sincerely simpleton xxx

strom99 is right. Try taking the viscous fan off and see if that helps.

Don't always mean it will last forever, I have had one fail in my Mondeo that was only 6 months old, replacement is still ok after three years.

It sounds like a problem loads of people on here have had and it seems to have been sorted with a new stat and for less than 15 quid its worth doing just so you know its definitaly not the stat or you got yourself a nice cheap fix if it is :)

Oh please..not another Vinny Jones wannabe..

You said in your original post that it fell steadily...not like a bloody stone.

A bit of a heads up, get a sense of humour, explain things clearly and wait for general **** taking followed by years of good advice.

Or, continue as you are, expecting folks to drop their labrador chow mein, grab their crystal ball and ask Elvis to interpret your vague problem and instantly Rattly will arrive on your doorstep with the spare parts and a helping hand.

What sort of range does Ratty offer this service and is it 24/7 ? :)

Anywhere on mainland Great Britain as long as my Tacho is within callibration (should be getting done this week). Although I can do anywhere on the isle of Wight 24 hours for the next few days.:D I generally work 12 hour days 6 days a week but I is usually on call when I'm not on shift.;)

I had a similarly irrelevant response from storm when I 1st posted, I ignored it ;)

Thermostats are cheap and easy to replace, so worth a go. Also I understand covering a section of the rad is worth a try in the winter (sure there are posts about this in search). I have a new head going on at the weekend and will consider this if the heater is still ineffective...

Well lets hope a new head does the trick ;)
