I have a 300 tdi disco which is making a noise at low revs under load not unlike a blowing exhaust. I can find no leaks on the exhaust or on the intercooler pipes. the noise is only noticable at low revs, but it could be the engine noise is overcoming it as the revs rise. obiously the head gasket is an area of concern though the oil and coolant are clean.
Anyone come across this before?

i reacently have had a noise/rumble when the engine is under load, turns out its the rubber disc thats warn between the prop and rear diff. may not be that but i had no idea what mine was at first

Yeah me too had the same problems... Rumble got worse n worse, changed all the bloody oils in Diffs, front n rear, gearbox n transfer box... then DOH!! realised whilst under there the rubber doghnut was a bloody mess... :-( mangled up and lots of play... Replaced with a new one and new nuts n bolts x6 from Rimmer Bros and worked a treat.... :)

the bolts dont look too bad on mine, i hav'nt ordered any- are they hard to get hold of if something goes wrong with the old ones

Hi Dazza if you had a lot of play Like mine...:-( then the heads of the bolts start to shear as they rub each other.... so i replaced them all to be sure... rimmer bros got them 2 days later and in stock so not hard to find... I do have a spare Doghnut rubber and a set of nuts on me at all times though.... see my gallery before n after... DOH!!... i'll upload now

hopefully i should be ok with the same nuts n bolts, there a bit warn but i cought it early and i'm not going to use it til its done. stared a few week ago just when it was pushed a bit on a short motorway run, been no noise or banging until yesterdayand worse today- so i dont think it will have done much damage :)
