hi iv got a disco 300 tdi with a rear diff that's leaking oil out of the casing, I've tried to repair it with plastic metal etc but that only seems to last for a couple months, !!!!! Any ideas ????????????

where abouts from the casing? sure its definately not the gasket or seal? if not then you should be able to get it welded up for next to nothing.

If it isn't the gasket or the pinion seal.........you can get weld in replacement diff pans.

It's a diff pan that's leaking oil , it's about the thicknessof paper ! ! ! So welding a new diff pan may be the answer, does that mean removing the half shafts and diff ....or is this a case of just cutting the old one out and welding the new one in ????

You should remove halfshafts and diff or else you will get grinding dust, metal bits and the like in the diff.

Best bet, if you have time and space, is to remove the whole axle and do the work on a bench. Welding the pan on is not the easiet thing to do and trying to do it on you back will just make it harder. Will also need to be clean oil free before you start welding.

Also go for one of the HD pans while you are at it; it will give you peace of mind when off road if nothing else :)
