I'm sure this has been discussed before but I could find an answer.

When I accelerate in my 300 tdi automatic the revs get to about 3000 rpm then the engine stutters - eventaully it will pick up again and the revs will go higher. This usually happens in 3rd gear accelerating to go up into 4th. It also happens when I reach 3000rpm in 4th trying to maintain around 70 mph up a slight incline on a motorway. Any suggestions please?

Oh **** !
I have renewed airfilter and fuel filter. Havent checked the waste gate - how do I di that? Got my fingers crossed it aint terminal

Thanks for that, I'll see what else is suggested the start in order of least expense first!
Someone told me they had a similar problem and it was the sender unit on the tank.

I agree with stig Lift pump, the injection pump can keep up until about then without the lift pump then it will just be starved of fuel. EASY and cheap part to replace - don't get a britpart replacement though.

Sender unit on the tank? Whats that got to do with the engine cutting out?

Your engine needs fuel, the lift pump sucks it out the tank and blasts it at the injection pump, if the lift pump fails it won't get enough at higher revs.

I was told that the location of the sender unit is a dirt trap and boy isn't it just. The pipes coming out of it have corroded but I havent removed it yet to have a good look. The theory is that if the pipe corrodes it let air to be sucked in. Does this make sense?
