Is that the plastic ring thing ppl talk of that gets hot and melts or am I confused?
no theres is a pivot bush for gear lever were it enters gear box top ,and a bush in the yoke on selector shaft

No James but if the noise may be due to the fitting of a non-modified clutch plate or a cheaper type that may have thrown a spring ...
then the garage should at least fix it for no cost ...

Sort of a guide for the gear lever position that can break?
no there is a gate plate under the selector yoke but it doesnt give issues, bushes stiffens lever up or makes it too loose
Ah don't think it's that then. If it were it would be same even with the vehicle stationary mefinks. This is when moving so clutch transfer or gearbox or diff I think I just have no luck with this car what so ever
James, if the OP has all other gears, if it drives normally in other gears ,most likely a lost synchro spring which holds the 3 slipper pads in place, these rock like seesaw depending on 3rd or 4th selected and hold the synchro in gear...
If spring comes out slipper pads can come out of line jamming that gear only way to fix is to strip box,the only other likely thing is very common where brgs wear out letting input shaft drop putting it out of alignment with mainshaft but would be noisy in all gears and will quickly loose all drive ,if you drop oil you will probably find parts of 10 cm c shaped wire spring ...? idea !
for the OP ... so he knows what the nasty bits look like

She actually and omfg I can't strip it that far on my drive it going to garage if it needs that!!
If I come to complete stop I let clutch in it won't go to first or second, let clutch out in neutral press it in then it selects first fine.
If driving in third but only with third if go on and off with the gas pedal can feel the lever move as if the gearbox is moving but fourth and fifth doesn't do this.
First to second changes okish although at one point between changing first to second the moment clutch was pressed in there was a rumble knock underneath but shifted to second it stopped and hasn't done it since. But now always in reverse whether clutch in or not it doesn't like it. To me it feels like something is being chewed up. Like when you have a broken brake pad and the car tries to lift on its suspension as its trying to turn a locked wheel? Clutch in on a hill, reverse engaged, brakes off it was solid like handbrake was on. If in neautral on hill and brakes off it rolls back freely but if in reverse even with clutch pedal as far down as the floor it doesn't want to know
The first bit of your post sounds like double declutching -
have you tried that in all the gears ?
