Timing was good , I will be changing the valve stem oil seals shortly and if that fails I will remove head and have it checked ..

I am sus of the head now as there have been a few heating issues , removed all the cooling systme and flushed it all , if it is good and warms up with no temp spikes I will just do valve seals but if it does still have temp issues I will pull the head off

when was the cam belt last changed? I had exactly the same problem, changed the cam belt with a good quality kit(machined crankshaft pully not welded one) and the smoking completely disappeared. before the change mine would smoke heavily on start up (blue) and turn to blue/white until the engine warmed up and then it would only smoke on overun. after the cambelt I dont get any smoke not even the customery puff of black on start up

HTH

Yep thats why i'm thinking its the timing - as yours will have been reset using locking pins when the belt was changed - my mates disco used to blow white smoke before i set up the timing properly - then it stopped as the timing was retarded ;)

yeah pal. this is head number 3 lol. first one had been skimmed to death. couple that with fitting a 2 notch hg rather than a 3 notch(3 notch was full of crap lol) so number 4 valve kissed number 2 piston. second head turned out to be a bannana(i always carry a straight edge now) this one is/was a good one. I stripped it all down cleaned everything up. checked the spring rates which were within specs. all the caps where in good condition. Freed up all the adjustment screws for the tappet adjustment. Even checked my push rods to make sure they were straight. removed the cam rollers and brass sliders for the push rods, cleaned them up and made sure that the slots were free from crap. intercooler was flushed, and all the pipe work cleaned aswell.also fitted an erling headgasket. Checked piston protrusion past the block on all four and meassured 0.95mm. the only thing i can think of now is that some crap from the compressor wheel on the turbo has got lodged under a valve seat as i've induction roar underload sound beefy buy not very healthy. plus i'm down to around 15mpg. may aswell have a v8 lol

What's induction roar?

What's induction roar?
induction roar ok when you fit a k&n filter to a petrol engine you get the sucking sound aswell as a growl underload, well on mine it sounds as thou the inlet valve is open when the exhaust valve is open, so you can hear the exhaust note through the intake, but also you can hear the inlet note through the exhaust. Got all the parts includinh new valves to sort it, once my daugther gets out of hospital i shall rip it apart and fix her again lol

I think I know what you mean. My first car was a Corsair 2000E. I fitted a Webber carb and donut air filter and you could hear that sucking and growling at the same time when you put your foot down..

kinda only on mine you can hear it through the exhaust whilst driving which you shouldn't plus its making a right racket with it being straight through system lol

on a slightly different note .... i have a td5 and when i accelerate hard i get a puff of smoke as i change gear .. should this happen ??????

regards

paul

I thought I was the only one who would admit to a Corsair 2000E when everyone else had/wanted a Cortina 1600E

Ha ha, it was my mum's old car and it was in a sorry state when she gave it to me. Me and my mates spent loads of time working on it. Head gaskets, clutch, water pump, carb, exhaust and a hand paint job! I remember it needed welding underneath for its mot, so I did the repairs with card, filler and undersea! Looked just like welded plates when I'd finished. Good job the tester didn't poke it. :) I took my driving test in my dad's 1600E. Happy days.

got mine sust now lol, new rings, and a few of the valve seats needed re cutting, then air lapping. rebuild starts today lol.

Sounds like mine, head gaskets, clutch, rear arches not attached to the floor, but you are right happy days, has anyone started a 'what I passed my test in' thread yet?? :D
