Right, if we forget about the first photo which has just confused matters. This is a new glow plug on the right. The 2 bits on the left are the inner and outer which I have removed. However the tip of the old plug is missing, I have put a screwdriver in the hole and I can confirm that the tip is still in the head.

RIGHT sorry to be the one to tell you this but as I have just been in garage to check ,the glow tip can get in side the bore , SO I'm sorry but it's a head off job  BEFORE you craker the motor

Steve

Right, well there are a few ways to get the remaining bit out. First try a magnet, and to be honest what i would be tempted to do is disconnect the injection pump and crank it over a few times to force the bit out using the compression of the engine...

The tip of the glow plug cannot fall inside the bore looking at where it sheared off. If this were possible, it would have fallen in the bore a while ago looking at the state of it.

Well it's definitely not coming out with a magnet, it's obviously quite happy in there, I think this is way past my level of eggspurtese.......... and guesses how much this is going to cost me???

If you look at the new plug, there is the end part which is skinny, and it gets thicker. The head is cast the same way. Therefor, it is not physically possible for that part of the plug to fall in to the bore.

OK, that makes sense , you really meant shape of it not state of it.

Cheers

Unscrew the body. Put a small amount of plus gas in the hole leave a while. Put a rag over the hole and start the engine, it should blow the glowplug tip out in to the rag.

That sounds daft enough to work.
I'll give it a go.
