Hi folks, I've got the head off a 300tdi, but on cleaning the block prior to refitting I was blowing out the bolt holes & the second one from the front inside the cam cover blows into the water gallery, is this normal or just another major disaster?? I have just purchased this LHD 1994 RR clasic (soft dash) with the head gasget already blown so I was expecting things to be less than 100% anyway.

Thanks, I think..just about sums up what I was thinking, going to plod on & finish putting it all back together & see what happens. If it runs for another few months till spring would be good.

Well I got it all back together & seems to be fine, ran it in the w/shop for 1/2 an hour then a spin round the block, temp mid way on the guage & no leaks:D. I wish I had put No4 injector in before I put the head on, had to take a big adjuster to the bodywork to get it in, then removed the air con pump to get No1 glow plug in. If I had a w/shop manual they might have told me:mad::eek: Anyway the rear X member should be here tomorrow so that will probably be another learning curve, always welded in situ before:scratching_chin:

It will have been a water passage, there are also a few which just come up to the head to help cool hotspots.

It's normal!
