hi all i ve got a 97 300 tdi auto xs witch has started playing up when you put it in drive or 1st youve got to rev it then it snatches into gear then wont go into top gear no matter how high the revs are can someone please help cheers andy

start by changing the oil and filter if it hasn't been done recently

ill change oil and filter hope it works will the running of gearbox change that quick also what is edc and how to you now if yours has it cheers andy

EDC is electronic diesel control, being a '97 I expect yours has it. Look at the fuel pump, if it has a cable for the throttle (accelerator) it doesn't have EDC, if it has wires then it has EDC

if i embarrass myself and confess i filled it with petrol instead of diesel by mistake it wasnt until engine started playing up and having no power to hardly drive even with my foot to the floor i realised what i done i emptied tank replaced fuel filter then found this problem with gearbox would it be connected cheers andy?

ive only owned it a week had a v8 110 for the last five years first time to fill up went to petrol pump out of habit andy

No,tis deffo DIESEL control.....I know this because it has been making my life a misery for 2 years now........roll on the reassembly of my manual 300 !Though leg injuries make it hard for me to drive manuals these days,hence the switch to autos,I will certainly appreciate the lack of EDC faults.

My auto 300 is a 94 model and does not have edc. I think they changed in 95.Without edc they are only111 bhp the latter ones were 120 bhp so a bit more grunt.You can always adjust the fuel pump on the none edc model if desired.

You are thinking of HDC, Hill Descent Control
