Hi all, I've just spotted a rather tidy 3 dr Disco for sale and was wondering aside from lack of 2 doors and the front seats, are there any other differences/problems from a 5 dr model that I need to know about before going to view it?

Nope apart from there's one less set of electric windows & central locking motors to go wrong and the rear wheel arches don't rot as badly as the 5 doors.

Nice one, the idea of not having to eventually repair the rear door arches and dodgy door/window electrics does appeal. Only problem I can see with this Disco is that it has 2 sunroofs!! So many people have told me to steer clear of them...unless I've got a brolly in the car of course.

Black silicone cures that problem.

Would that be to seal up the actual sunroofs so that they are closed for good? apologies for my ignorance but our last Disco had no sunroofs so the problem never arose.

I never was one for "wind in my hair" driving so sealing them up would suit me fine if the sunroofs were a bit leaky. Thanks for your help.

Check where the rear quarter panel bolts to the sill panel (where the bottoms of the rear doors would normally be). These can rot out and leave the rear quarter flapping about which might not be too apparent as the plastic sill finisher holds it in place (and hides the rot).
Front seat frames can crack at the welds. Not the end of the world as they can be repaired.

Funny enough you mentioning the seats, as the seat mounts had more corrosion on them than the underside of the car:confused:, also found that the rear floor padding under the carpet was glued down:eek:, and a knock to the n/s had not been disclosed. Needless to say alarm bells rang so the hunt continues. Thanks for the tips.

I've just shown your thread to the Mrs, how much would you be looking for? and would you consider a p/x + cash with an R plate Mondeo on 88000 miles?

I think your mad for wanting to sell by the way:eek:, we feel like we've lost a limb since our's got written off. By the way is it a 5 or 7 seater?
Yes, I probably am mad and will miss it big time, but at nearly £90 for a tank of Diesel which I'm getting through in a week sometimes (540 miles) it's getting a bit silly. I'd only change it for another LR so it's going to have to be a Freelander Td4 I'm afraid.
It's a 6 seater!!! :D I bought a brand new seat kit last year for the N/S, keeping the cubby box on the other side which I find useful.
I'm not sure what to ask yet, but at the prices the other guys are suggesting it just isn't worth selling!

Yer dint look very well did you there a few 97 reg with reasonable mileage, for a grand less than your asking. and as anyone who knows Landrovers will tell you Service history and general condition is far far more important than mileage. I saw a few basket cases as well when I went looking for my mates disco but some of them had low mileage, Some suspiciously low compared to the state of the car.
