Just got a Discovery 2 and the 3 Amigos lights have started to come on. The chap that sold it is happy to take back and fix the issue. I understand that the abs sensors going is a common problem on these.

The problem we taking it back is that it's a 90 mins drive with 2 cars needed to do. I we have to leave it with him and then come back again! I'm buying a fault code reader and if it is only the abs senor I might have a go myself but wasn't that keen to take the disc off too. I wondered it it was possible to replace the abs sensor without removing the disc?

Hi @neilEbardsley

Be careful of the diagnostics kit, although the one you are getting may be OK, some throw up spurious results as the TD5 D2 is not 100% compliant.
The 3 amigos can be a number of things. I would always advise getting a good known diagnostics reader on it to help diagnose the problem.
If you put up your location , you may find someone is local to you who can plug it in.

Cheers

There's also a chance there's not actually a full on fault, if a code is thrown up they will light up but might not need a fix, just noting down and clearing, this happened to me 3 times yesterday due to harsh greenlaning, I take a Hawkeye diagnostic everywhere I go to keep my dash lights off when there's no proper faults, so may be worth getting your own proper diagnostic on it first before taking it 1.5 hours drive :)

I would say if you are getting 3 faults while greenlaning then there may well be an underlying issue there. This could be the shower before the full on 3 amigos storm starts. You should have no faults showing....:p:p

Didn't get time to read em, but one that's come up once a month or so is "left front air gap too large", was probably the same, very occasionally doesn't like a knock,
What ya mean abusing?

Then let him fix it. Ask him how long it will take. If its a new hub it will take a couple of hours max. Why 2 cars ?? Go and get something to eat somewhere then go back and get it.

+1. The seller has offered to fix it, let him. Fix a date/time prior.

Thank you. Neil. He visited and helped. He cleared the faults but the front right sensor came back. I've ordered a new sensor. Plus on Neil's advice a new wheel unlocking nut. As the old one was split. Neil was also shocked when I bought out my torque wrench to take the wheels nuts off so a breaker bar is on the way too. Hopefully even a numpty like me can change the sensor. I will have a go next weekend.

Can I ask what people use to remove the oil filter. It's not as easier as on the 300tdi. I tried one of these but no luck

Next I had a go at the other engine filter but couldn't get the 10mm bolt to move. They where pretty solid! I didn't force the point as I didn't want to snap the heads. I will try to get something to spray on that will loose them a little.

I say again that a sensor fault would not give "air gap" fault code but signal or electrical failure fault code

That is not the fault that showed.
The reading was 1.75~1.9 Volts on the front right hand sensor. Others were in the region of 2.21V.
Neil did take a piccie of the fault codes showing on the page.

Cheers

Hi Neil,

I used something like this on the bay.

I've used a strap wrench just like one of those many times in the past. Even easier and cleaner than bashing a hole through the canister with a screwdriver too, and you can use extensions on the socket set to get the lever out in the clear.

It was not ignored, because the writer Ryan of the "air gap", has liked your post #12.........and that was a week ago....:p

Cheers

I understand.... he liked the post and replaced the sensor which was not recommended in the liked post without mentioning that the sensor's outputs were checked...
