hi all hope someone can shed some light on my problem when the car get to normal running temp and when I reach 40 mph+ my amber hdc light comes on no other dash light come on (abs or tc) it goes off when I drop below 40 mph I have been told it could be my brake pedal sensor but all my brake lights work ( all 3) I have put my car on a diagnostic kit and there are no fault codes .I unplug the plug under the gearstick and when I hit 40 mph no lights came on so is my problem the hdc button on the gearstick or somethink else. if I keep the hdc unplugged will it have any effect on the abs or tc functions my car is a freelander es td4 on a 51 plate with 91000 miles on the clock thanks for ant help roger
 
Hi everyone just bought a automatic 2.5 v6 freelander, while I have been sorting other problems with it I have noticed that when I turn my ignition on and the dash lights up for a pretty check im not getting the abs, tc and hdc lights come on iv checked the fuses and all seems well is there a bulb I can check behind the dash or is it a sealed unit ?
 
freelander td4 2001reg all sensors changed --all brake switches changed still got all three lights on all the time plus handbrake light now wont go off now i am being to think a match would solve all problems it is insured any suggestion welcome

Thank you for the advice about replacing the Freelander brake light switch.
Mine is a 2001 TD4 and I had the TC and HD warning lights on full time.
I got a replacement of the faulty switch from Island 4x4 Kent. http://www.island-4x4.co.uk

They still stock the original OEM switch pn XKB100170 for £7.00 + VAT and postage. This is a much cheaper option compared to the updated switch XKB500120 £7.50 + VAT, which requires a new harness adapter cable YMQ503280 £15 + VAT = a total of £22.50 + VAT and postage.

I figured that the original switch became faulty after 15 years and 197,000 miles, so why buy the more expensive new items.

One tip I would suggest, in my case the old switch would not rotate clockwise (seen from under the dash) to release but would rotate anti-clockwise and came out easily. The replacement went in easily in but its a bit like replacing household GU 10 low energy light bulbs and as tricky to get the retaining dogs to align with the slots while pressing the spring loaded switch into place.

Turned on the ignition started the engine and the TC and HD warning lights are out. Brake lights checked ok too. 10 minutes max.

Whilst driving to work on Friday, I noticed the Hill Descent Control & Traction Control warning lamps illuminated:

I also realised later in the evening that my brake lights weren’t working either and who knows for how long! Much reading on Landyzone lead me to believe that the brake light switched was stuffed.

After googling Landrover Freelander parts I found I needed the following : -

New Switch Part Number -(XKB500120):

Convertor Harness Part Number -(YMQ503280):

Here’s a picture of the both the switch, and the converter loom (Harness) attached together:

Procedure to replace:

To remove the old one switch, locate behind and above the brake pedal. Once located, rotate clockwise and gently pull to one it clears it should come away. It was then just a matter of removing the old switch by twisting it like that and then withdrawing it from its retaining bracket.

The new switch was then installed by inserting it into the retaining bracket and twisting anti clockwise. The loom was connected up and the ignition turned on. The HDC & TC lights then extinguished after the bulb check.

Compare the new switch to the old one! They are substantially different in shape and size.

The new switch also seems more robust than the older one!

I do not know if anyone posted pictures of a switch taken apart so here they are. It's an older version 100170, I was going to try to fix it, clean it and roughen up the contacts with sand paper, that check if it's going to work. To take it apart first pull the pin out, than carefully pry out the cap/cover, it will non come off, but rather slide down the built-in rails and release the contacts. It might come in handy if two amigos pop up while being somewhere in the woods..

My experience of fixing mine, was that it didn't last. A few days yes, until the new switch arrived. They are very cheap. I left the new switch in the glove box...but it was only a week or so before I needed to fit it. A year later everything is still fine.
 
Another illuminating conversation with Carole on Friday night. The light came on in my car (04 TD4) last night she told me. "OK, any idea which light?" I think it had T on it, "Was it the traction control light?" Dunno. Ok. So took it out last night TC + HD light illuminated on the way home. Now we have the updated switch & wiring in a desk at home. The problem came up a couple of weeks after Carole bought the car. I bought the bits but the issue rectified itself and hadn't reoccurred in the past 3 years. Something to do for Sunday. Much to my amazement the "new" parts were exactly where I left them so found them straight away.

Does anybody can tell me if there's advanced electronic in the harness adaptor for new type brake switch? YMQ503280. Looks like I ordered new switch only, and in the place I currently am, I cannot buy harness, switch were delivered for 2 months... I've tried to connect by cables with single pins new switch, but this eventually bowl out my brake light fuse. I've checked connections of the harness from one store, but connecting it that way didn't have me positive result (brake lights work again). (I've connected 2 green cables from black connector into the one)

The additional wiring harness doesn't have any electronics in it. It's just an inter connecting harness to convert from the old type connector on your existing wiring harness, to the new style brake switch connector.

Do you know pinage of them? So far I found that pin 1 and 2 from New switch should be connected into the one, and go into the pin 3 into old connector. But that eventually blowed up my Fuse. Maybe combination is different? I cannot see all wiring, because connection part between new switch and old socket is covered on all images that I've found.

I can't check this because I don't have a Freelander 1 to take photo's of it for you to compare. We will need someone else on the forum to take photo's for us.
