The best thing to bolt on to a 3.9 is an engine stand, then put a 4.6 in its place.
I ran a crower 229 in my 3.9 (actually a 4.0 block) with all the 14cux stuff retained. It was ok, but the 4.6 it's got now is so much better. I can pass people on the highway without downshifting. Both were 9.35:1 CR.
 
Tubular exhaust manifolds and plenum bored to take 72mm throttle will make some gains without stripping the engine down. It depends on your application after that but a suitable hi lift hydraulic cam and ported heads with standard valves / ported inlet would help a land rover considerably without sacrificing low down performance.
A 4.6 is a better starting point though if a good one can be found, as above.

Are you running the 4.6 on the 14cux ecu? Using the 229?
How is fuel consumption?

Fuel consumption is around 11 to 12 mpg. Keep in mind its got a roof rack, 35" tires, and I tend to keep it around 75 to 80mph on the highway. Also, you can only buy 10% ethanol fuel around here, so that drops it quite a bit too.
 
And how is your landy running with it's LS1 or Lexus conversion?
fine and not scared to open it up, and yes I have 1uzfe in it as seen by members of this site.

we also have a rrc 1uzfe supercharged nitrous owned by zen
 
How much Wheel Horsepower is the Lexus delivering?

Is there a build thread? Would love to know more about the drive train and management system.
I agree that the rover lump is flawed but mine being a factory v8 I can just bolt a rover lump in without too many other mods.
I view my 110 as a rolling project so I'm already thinking about the next upgrade. I was looking at the om606 as a possibility but the Lexus lump would be brilliant.

Isn`t that like an entry level Ferrari `enthusiast` putting in a Impretza turbo and thinking its cool?

Would never work for me, RV8 in the 3.9i etc (mine) gives far more enjoyment and fixing opps than weird implants. Its like going out with a bird thinking she`s real and then finding she`s plastic. No soul, that`s what`s wrong with the world now, its being bled of soul.

Just sayin`..

RV8 all show and no go what's a 4.6 rv8 in stock 200-210hp if your lucky, try 1uzfe 261+ in stock form 32v quad cam
 
Have you (robertf) had any trouble with your 4.6?
have you done any modifications to it?
 
The one I've mentioned is just a 4.6 with crower 50229 camshaft and a Mallory distributor, and some tuning done to the 14cux chip with tuner pro.

I've got another that is in a GEMS 5 speed disco with the 53229 cam (GEMS equivalent to the 50229) and I swapped the 4.6 Pistons for 4.0 pistons putting the CR at 10.8:1. That truck will scoot
