my engine (petrol/lpg) was running just fine a couple of days ago, i left it ticking over on the drive but when i got back it had stopped and wouldnt start. i think it had run out of petrol, put a couple of gallons in but it will not start. it tries by firing on a couple of cylinders but will not fire up. i have taken the fuel feed pipe of and checked that plenty of fuel is coming in, any ideas please.

Put clean spark plugs in and make sure the battery has plenty of juice......and do some more cranking

if it is fouling plugs put in clean again and pull plugs off temp senders on fuel rail and water sensor and try again.

Sounds very much like a dead rotor arm. Had this happen to me a while back and had to get a mate to tow me home.

Make sure you use genuine LUCAS cap and arm, check the routing of the HT leads and make sure they are clipped correctly.

don't discount it being a fuel issue, pump can be putting out fuel but it may not be putting out enough pressure to get it through injectors.

Check plugs.
Have you got a good spark? If yes could be fuel issue
Does the exhaust smell of fuel? If so probably not a fuel issue.
Is the amp good?
Check spark using a spark plug on end of plug lead against metal on engine.
Do you have an alarm/immobiliser on there? Sounds silly but the one on my white truck was faulty and spent 3 days cleaning testing changing parts and found it was the immobilier that had packed up.
Had power to coil etc but not sparking at plug.
How good is your coil?
As to what parts use whatever just not brit part.
