I have taken the heads off my 1995 3.9Efi disco and found these loose on the heads after taking the rocker shafts off. I cant see anywhere they may have come from or find any other than the five I have. Help please I want to get it all back together now heads skimmed.

there valve caps ,you dont need them there not std fitting ,there used on tdis etc to stop valve end mushrooming under rocker ,hydraulic tappets wouldnt have them as the valve end dosent get the same hammering ,plus hyd tappets are built so fit tolerances of std set up

Thanks for quick reply. So should I look for the rest of them or just put it all back together with my fingers and toes crossed? It's the first V8 head gasket job I have done.

Did you have rubber rocker cover gaskets?

Just a thought but they look like the little rings that fit in the holes in the rubber gaskets the 4 screws go through on each rocker cover. I've had to retrieve a few from the engine with a magnetic probe jobbie when they've fallen in.

If you did have rubber rocker gaskets, check them and there should be 3 still in the gaskets, unless they're on the floor somewhere!

If you had cork gaskets then everything I've just said is useless!

looking on this computer which for some reason shows better piccy if they are tubes thats what they are

I did have rubber gaskets which have now been binned. I cant find any more of the "things" so I'll have to assume the other three are in the bin as well.

Thanks for the info guys.
