I have done a forum search but not really found what i was after. I am thinking of fitting a supercharger kit to my 3.9efi, im pretty sure i will have to chip ECU with a tornado chip for the extra fuel but what else will i have to do?
Will it have to go on a rolling road and be set up so its getting the right amount of fuel and boost pressure?
I already have 4 branch manifolds and free flowing exhaust, apart from that the engine is standard.

Anyone have any experience with this?

rotrex charger, intercooler, and mapping (unichip would do) to correct fueling would be the basic bits and bobs you'd need.
 
why fit a supercharger to a standard engine when you would be better off having the heads reworked and a uprated cam to get the same gains without the worry of holed pistons;)

Since i was a kid i wanted a V8 landrover with a supercharger, my 90 only does about 500 miles a year and i enjoy working on it.
Something nice about having a supercharger sat on to of the engine!!

Any advice appreciated
 
I remember a stunning project about 25 years ago, a Rover V8 powered Stag, that had been blown. If I remember right the interesting bit was that rather than a dedicated auto compressor, the guy used the cabin pressurisation compressor from an airliner! It was supposed to be a bargain build but he did a proper job, and I doubt it was really any cheaper than an off the shelf solution by the time he'd finished all the fab work for the manifold etc.

low down torque is generally lost when you cam and fit a flowed head and since the compression ratio is low on a V8 you can get away with low pressure and an intercooler without too much likely hood of damage. however the cost is not cheap though. I'd rather have a 4.8 N/A than a supercharged 3.9L

I have fitted quite a extreme cam to my 4.6 engined disco2 (piper 285)and very big valves in the heads, comp up to 10.5 and if anything it has gained torque low down to the original set up,granted at 2500rpm it takes off:D

making the compression ratio higher will make a difference though.
 
So many people fit performance cams, flowed heads high pressure oil pumps and granted on road great there is on in our offroad club he has to rev it before he moves off bloody awful off road and has lost all low down torque. Supercharger is the way but needs to be matched with compression ratio, heads, and correct fueling otherwise you are wasting your time
 
ok super charging you will need to uprate the head gaskets and proberly fire ring the heads lower compression to allow a greater volume in unless you have a low comp engine 8.35:1 is ideal for supercharging.
other down sides power consumption to power gained is not really put in 100% get 100% back more like 100% in 50-60% back
just chipping will give you more less mpg as most only tweak the temp sensor reading and tewll the ecu it is cold when hot and overfuels!

as for the other post about trick engine all rev and no go engine proberly set up all wrong!
