I have a old K- reg 3.9 Vogue, which I had converted into a pickup some years ago. For various reasons it wasn't used that much, and more recently had just been left standing for at least 6 months, in which time the battery had become discharged. In the past all it had needed was a pair of jump leads and away she went, but this time, the alarm goes off, and I'm assuming the immobiliser kicks in, so that I get no life from the starter when I turn the key.
Question 1. If the immobiliser has kicked in, should the starter turn over the engine but not fire, or should the starter be prevented from turning the engine over? Obviously this will tell me if I have a starter problem as well. The alarm is sounding so I know that bit is working (unfortunately)
Question 2. How can I disable/dismantle the immobiliser/alarm system? It's not needed as the vehicle is only going to be a local knockabout.
At some stage in its life it was converted to springs, so the air stuff was removed, and during the conversion a lot of wires ceased to be used (rear windows, rear wiper, etc) and were taped off. The central locking also stopped working too - no problem because (a) it is never locked and (b) the doors will still lock mechanically with the key anyway.
Where I am at the moment is this. The engine, when it was running, has only done 77K and is as sweet as a nut. It has a manual gearbox, which makes it really useful at times on the farm. Don't want to throw loads of money at it, but equally am reluctant to scrap it. How can I take the alarm/mobiliser off?? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

The battery was shot, wouldn't hold charge any more, so I used a nearly new 100a/h battery from my P38 to try it.

IIRC, the immobiliser can only be re-mobilised with the fob ...

Vehicle handbook has the procedure for the fob..

I had a 1993 K plate Range Rover stolen off my drive back in 2011 and the little sods used it to steal some riding gear from a local stables, then once they had done with it, burnt it out.....so please, lets keep all 'secrets' for bypassing security features in a private message.

Can fully appreciate that the solution could pose a security issue in the wrong hands. But in the meantime I still have a problem, and would hope that anyone who might be able to help my dilemma would PM me, please.

A fully functional fob which matches your vehicles system is important to remobilise the engine.
Just look at the disco forum, bypassing of the immobiliser and how to do it with has been explained a few times.
You immobiliser system may be installed differently but the basics are still the same, 10min to get the engine running with two bits of wire, and a couple of hours to do a permanent and neat fix.
