I have a old K- reg 3.9 Vogue, which I had converted into a pickup some years ago. For various reasons it wasn't used that much, and more recently had just been left standing for at least 6 months, in which time the battery had become discharged. In the past all it had needed was a pair of jump leads and away she went, but this time, the alarm goes off, and I'm assuming the immobiliser kicks in, so that I get no life from the starter when I turn the key.
Question 1. If the immobiliser has kicked in, should the starter turn over the engine but not fire, or should the starter be prevented from turning the engine over? Obviously this will tell me if I have a starter problem as well. The alarm is sounding so I know that bit is working (unfortunately)
Question 2. How can I disable/dismantle the immobiliser/alarm system? It's not needed as the vehicle is only going to be a local knockabout.
At some stage in its life it was converted to springs, so the air stuff was removed, and during the conversion a lot of wires ceased to be used (rear windows, rear wiper, etc) and were taped off. The central locking also stopped working too - no problem because (a) it is never locked and (b) the doors will still lock mechanically with the key anyway.
Where I am at the moment is this. The engine, when it was running, has only done 77K and is as sweet as a nut. It has a manual gearbox, which makes it really useful at times on the farm. Don't want to throw loads of money at it, but equally am reluctant to scrap it. How can I take the alarm/mobiliser off?? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
