Right ive just took the centre main off at bottom and the little slither of metal inside looks like 90% copper . Theres is no way I can take engine out . Ideas pls

loose bolts on pick up is a issue ,you can change bearings without removing crank if all bearings are slackened, but is there any damage on journals ,any pics

The part that holds the bearing is fine and the crank looks fine as well . Its only the shell thats copper looking . Sorry not sure what you mean by journals .this is the first time ive ever gone to this part of an engine .

journal is the machined part of crank bearing runs over,if bearings copper its worn out and chances are the other 4 are too, crank bearings have wear on the lowest shell and big ends the top shell when you come to look at them

undo main cap..remove inner lower bearings with main caps..note which is which..losen but do not remove outers yet..you dont want to put any strain on crank and rear/front seal..
you can then get main upper bearings out by pushing them around.NOTE they have a little lug that holds them in place and stops them spinning when all done up..MAKE sure you push bearing so lug comes out first, wont budge otherwise..
NOTE which bearing comes from which joural..
bolt inner main caps back up..not tight! just to hold crank in place.
remove outer caps and do same..

then read what each bearing says on back..part no /size etc..and go buy..use quality parts.

fitting new bearings is basically the reverse...BUT use loads of clean oil on bearings and FOLLOW torque up procedure for your engine..
YOU WILL need a torque wrench.

once mains done move on to conrod bearings..
you can remove at same time, but i would not..this way the pistons and rods will help stop the crank moving and damaging rear seal..

good luck..plenty on you tube about this..

I think ive managed to do it

help again im just doing the mains and the kit I purchased . two of the bearing have flanges on the sides , one went into the center top but the engine has not got another bearing with flanges on , I presumed it would go on the last bearing number 5 but it don't , they are both smooth bearings without flanges , ps the bearing with flanges that I have has lower written on it so it has to go into one of the lower journals . I have looked at it going into the center one with the other one with flanges but the little lug is off center and it wont sit in , any ideas pls
