O.K. then, if you jump over in to the V8 engines section and do a search for ignition tests you should find a whole load of threads and posts about ignition problems, misfires and no start.

Don't forget that it may not be a component fault - check wiring and connectors. The connectors that go on to the coil terminals go hard and brittle and corrode over time. It could be the case there is a duff connector, if the connectors look green or the wires are hard and brittle, cut the wires back to sound, flexible and clean copper, put on new spade connectors and re-attach.

Check the connections to the ignition amplifier and if it gets really drastic, open the loom and check the condition of the splice for the 12v feed to the ignition amplifier and the coil as they are common.

Once i get the distributor out , i will open up the loom and check the cables. I do have a niggling feeling it may be a bad connection. However while the distributor is out i'll swap the amp as removing the disi is such a PITA.
 
I got my collection of coils from the junk yard
I get them out of Jaguars
But I can see you are getting a lot of input on your problem
And it’s a simple not starting issue

Ok so i changed the ignition amp today and checked the wiring from amp connector to coil. Theres only 2 wires +ve and -ve both were fine.

Now i have fuel getting to the plugs and spark at plug lead ends byt she still won't start ??
Battery is fully charged and turning engine over.
Hooked up my van to to jump the battery while cranking

Still won't start .

I'm all out of ideas now
 
Timing? Compression?
Any popping and quacking or backfiring?
If there's fuel in the cylinder and a spark something should happen.

I can only think that 'they' are not coinciding with TDC, but I really can't see how the timing can move THAT much since the engine was last shut down :confused:
Stupid questions perhaps, but slack timing chain jumped some teeth?
Something gone seriously wrong with the dissy internals?
I await the solution with bated breath as this could happen to any of us with V8's.

Static timing looks ok. I have rotar arm a few degrees before no.1 plug lead, and compression in no.1 cylinder as it rises to the top of its stroke.

I guess next step is rocker cover off to be sure i have the right cycle and exhaust valves are definitely shut

The only other question is are you happy you have the plug leads in the right order and correctly routed?
 
Not read whole thread....ignition amp? Pick up Gap on reluctor ring? Duff coil?
 
bad King lead?

try spraying a sniff of easy start into the intake and see if she catches.
 
I would go for condenser, they are known for this, if it's run ok then fails to start that will be the problem.
 
I had an issue with my 1990 classic... went to petrol station one day. All good. sat for 2 days went to drive it and it wouldn't go over 1200 Rpm without misfiring, popping , backing, went through everything. But would idle fine

Saint v8 suggested the dizzy was worn and when the revs built up the rotor arm was moving up or the counter weights. replaced the dizzy ran perfect.

If you are getting fuel and spark and haven't done anything timing wise between running and not look at the dizzy. pull the cap off and see if there is up/down movement on the arm /shaft
