quite possibly, and its an easy job to do so worth doing anyway even if you're not sure.
got the leads today so the range is up and running again.
she seems to run a bit better now with new plugs and leads, feels like there is a bit more power low down the revs. remains to be seen whether my average fuel consumption is any better than the 17mpg it was last time i checked..
yeah my usual drive is 15 minutes steady 60mph jaunt along an A road, with 5 minutes of up and down twisty B roads at either end, so i guess 17mpg isnt too bad for what it is.
hopefully that means my piston rings arent worn, and things are mostly working as they should even if its still a bit shaky at idle
like I said th only way you are going t sort it once you have done all the other bits you have is a new TPS , it worked on mine and everything and I mean everything apart from a rebuild had been done before and it still had a little flat spot just off idle and a shakey idle, swapped that out and its been perfect since!
I had peeps telling me it had low comp, needed a rebuild all sorts on here but it was just that all along!
how much is a TPS? if its cheap then possibly worth replacing it just incase, as i dont know anyone with the gadgetry required to find a fault with the TPS
stuart will come and sort it for you , he has the computer thingy for the classic.
I will PM you his number . the thing is the fualt on mine did not show up for about six months untill it got bad enough for the computer to register it, but it was effecting the running just like yours. then it got worse and it showed up- we swapped out the tps and it was as good as gold.
they are about £60+ new depending on where you go , a good used one is an option if you can trust the part not to be as worn as yours that is
ah thanks for the PM mate. i do know a fellow who runs a small garage near me so iwas going to drop in on friday on the off chance he has the bits and pieces, but failing that i'll give stuart a call
ok lets start with the basics reset the base idle disconect the ecu for half to wipe faults and relearn base idle check timing swap coolant temp sensor or call me
like a lot of things and you should know better a lot of simple things are missed then causing the original fault to be masked up untill if properly fails! and in some cases it shows up while doing the reseting so always worth a try
