how easy is it to remove a v8 oil pump? is it the sort of thing that would be easy enough to do at the side of the road? i am not shy to doing work and have built many engines and cars so im clued up enough ;) has anyone done it or is there any sort of step by step guide?
thanks!

Also when my engine is running it has a hard knocking noise that comes and goes its in the video, when i rev it the knocking increases in speed but on the way down the rev range it is completly silent now my mind working would think if its a cam or crank knock it would be constant all the time would a broke oil pump make that noise? sorry the video sound is **** but its a iphone video lol

How easy is a subjective thing, it depends on your mechanical skills, but as there's only six bolts to remove and no need to drain any oil is not required so that involved. So get your self a Haynes Manual as removal is detailed step by step.
All you need to refit is a new gasket and a tub of Vaseline or something similar.

As for the knock if it's sounds like a machine gun under load i.e. going up a hill or accelerating then goes silent when you unease off it could be a blown gasket, it was the manifold to Y pipe that is held by three studs and nuts on mine.

Also for the vid put it on uTube and post the link on this thread.

Well im not the best mechanic there ever was haha but im clued up enough and yes i will get one as soon as i can, as for the knock it sounds like its coming from the centre of the engine and also can be felt though the whole car so wouldnt be a gasket i dont think but i suppose if its a little missfire it could be felt?

Ok, but there's a need for a sound recording to go any further with that issue, if you had said a tapping then it may have been a slipped cylinder liner, which is a symptom following the overheating of the engine. Big ends knock :(

its not had any overheating problems that im aware of il quickly set up a youtube account and il post the video so you can hear and i can get your thoughts

Very rhythmic isn't it and for me would be worrying but I'm the original doom & gloom.

On uTube there's one with the sound of a slipped liner which may sound the same, also you engine is very noisy with the ticking which is loud may be your on top of the source.
The ticking I can hear on my disco is of injectors opening /closing but that is distant, the main noise come from the serp belt and fan and other pulleys spinning around, and exhaust of course and nothing is loud.

Also put a new post with the vid on the V8 engine Forum, where someone will diagnose that sound, there's some experts that only look there so you bound to get an answer.

UPDATE!!!
i started the engine today (naughty naughty) used a electronic stethoscope and had a poke about there isnt a single bit of noise coming from the engine YAY!!! but as soon as i put the tool on the top of the inlet manifold its bang bang bang really loud! sooooo that would say to me thats a missfire of some sort? or a blown gasket inside the housing? gonna take it apart tomorrow and have a look....

took my sump off today and oil pick-up and it was fully blocked with sealant to the point if you poured oil into the gauze nothing came out the other side lol cleaned it all up and fitted a new sump gasket gonna get some oil tomorrow and put it in to see what happens HOPEFULLY the oil pump is ok... everything crossed haha!!
