Has anyone on this forum successfully fitted a 3.6 TDv8 engine in a 2007 Discovery 3, or know of someone who have? My 2007 2.7 liter Disco 3 has suffered a catastrophic crank failure twice within a space of a month and at a time when I could/can ill afford it. I looked at the BMW M57 engine replacement option but there appears to be little real information available, plus the M57 standard engine may be a little under powered.
I live in South Africa and apart from the fact that our currency is at an all time low due to factors beyond my control, we do not seem to have a lot of Discovery engine transplant experts, other than I know a man who knows a man who read something on a forum.....
Any information will be highly appreciated.

Yep, it's been done, a guy up in Scotland - I think there was a magazine article about it. You might find more details on one of the dedicated Discovery forums.

Thank you Graculus, I have searched the internet to no avail, but I shall try again.

The internet is a big place, try searching for 'disco tdv8 retrofit' - I'm not sure of the rules for direct linking to other sites so I'll leave it at that, except to say adding a numerical may narrow the search a bit...

Th russians did it years ago, see on youtube.
Discomikey off the d3 forum (the scotland guy) did his a couple of years back

Just buy a TDV8 RR and have done with it.

Cos that isn’t gonna be just an engine swap.

How good are you with electric spark things.

I think the guy used a rr sport as the donor for the d3v8, basically used two cars to make one.

RR has different internal shape and less seats. So may not be appropriate.

Sorry did he say he needs the car for space and seats?
I never actually said it wasn't possible, just not a simple engine/box swap.

I’d have thought the swap uses manually or completely factory parts and nothing bespoke. Any engine swap is a decent project. But as this engine was fitted to the L320 RRS which shares a platform with the D3. I’d image it may not be horrendous by any means.

Think rrs chassis is shorter than the d3.

indeed mate as u rightly say , the RRS chassis are shorter

also as a side note i see those front outriggers at the back of the front wheels that arnt used on a D3 are only used on the RRS, think it’s for the dynamic anti roll bar system

Did wonder what they were for.

Yes they are. However as they use the same power train options with the petrol V8 and TDV6, I’d place a large wager that the wheelbase changes are not in the engine bay and would have zero impact on fitting a 3.6 TDV8.

Sorry I thought you meant to use the rrs chassis/drivetrain under the d3s body!

Sport is cramped, but the conversion is basically use a totalled RRS as a parts donor.

Some D4 had active anti roll though, spot the pattern.

D1 no
D2 yes
D3 no
D4 yes
D5 no
