Hi!
Hope someone can draw a bit of lite in to my problem!
I have (as well as my p38 dse) a range rover classic from 1982, two door, olive green, that I have totally restaured!.
In the engine side i have a new coil, new set of high tension leads, new contact breakers for the distributro, new distributor cap. And I have got an edelbrock preformance intake manifold and edelbrock 1404 (500 cfm) carb. (The carb I have it set up to RPI standars that is: primary jets 0.80", secondary jets 0.86" and rods 0.62"x0.52").
I cant get it to go right!...It doenst seem to have the power it should!
Does anyone have any ideas!
Anyone ideas where to start!
Thanks in advance!!
regards
Adal

have you checked distributor points dwell, vac advance and mechanical advance weights are ok-use strobe light for advance test

Distributor point new...and dwell angel set up with test angle machine. Mechanical advance ore vacume advance dont know....I have checked the advance with the strobe lamp..and the mark does move. And I´m setting it to 6-7 º btdc. But still doesnt go as it should!
I´m missing something!

if like mine you have several timing markings-find tdc and tipex correction fluid it. Next find the 20 and 30 dbtc marks-tipex them.

disconnect vac advance and block pipe with small bolt or screw-so it does not draw in air.

With strobe light increase revs mechanical advance should top out at 26-28dbtc.
(less or sticky when back to idle=partially seized advance weights)

I managed to use a piece of vac pipe to suck the vac advance and hold it open-seen by looking into dist with cap off or running with strobe light.

When your sure all timing is correct-then get it on gas analyser to adjust co

I´ll trie that!
I havent done it the two ways as you say...I´ll check weekend see if I can get something right!
Thanks
I´ll come back and report!

your welcome, Another symptom of advance weights is loads of choke for ages

My sympthoms are....
Start hte engine with a bit of choke...and soon take it off and goes well with out load (without moving the car....on stop!).
When I try to run it...it feels like no power.....you press the pedal and the engine doesnt rev....its like something doesnt let it....¿maybe not enough petrol?.
i have a 3 speed torqueflite 727 auto box (that used to come with the early range rovers...It was going well so I dont asume the gearbox is bad....in low gear the auto works fine!).but in high gear (high gear on transfer box).....it just doesnt kick.....doesnt have power!
Any idea!

sounds like partially stuck advance weights, is it a lucas distributor? if it is the pressed steel weights are poor design. But checking advance will tell you that. Also pin hole in vac diaphram would cause problems.
