Ok so the engine cranks, i have spark and i have fuel but wont run, what am i missing ??? What is the white/slate wire on the back of the alternator meant to go to if anything?

So you turn ignition and fuel pump primes for a couple of secs. Ecu is connected to coil neg so it knows it's cranking and fires injectors. Vac hose attached to fuel pressure reg?
 
So spark is at correct timing, vac hose is connected and neg to ecu, tried it again today after having the battery on charge and being away, it almost wants to go and pretty much ran for a second or two then went,

Maf sensor looks like it has seen better days though, any way i can run it without this or no? Can think wat else to chack and im losing my tether slowly!
 
Ive got a long vac hose off the front plug on the left hand side of the inlet manifold which i have no idea where it goes? Any ideas?
 
Do you mean plenum? Brake servo, fuel pressure regulator, not vac advance, not stepper so bung it if it's spare and it might fire.
 
Haha yeah sorry thats what i meant. Vac advance is connected and so is pressure tegulator, will try and bung it tomorrow and see if it makes andpy difference
 
So turns out the timing was 180 degrees out but now thats sorted and checked twice still now running, tried a friends ecu and still no joy.

Any ideas what this plug is for??

Only one thats loose and no idea.

Ahh ok well i wont worry about that one then,

Right so as it stands i have fuel, spark timing is correct (checked twice)
Fitted new dizzy new leads and plugs and rotor arm
And yet i still have no running engine.
Ive checked for earth/ground wires from the ecu plug and found two that werent ground, did this and still nothing.

Dont know off my head what else i can check or what to check, any common issues im missing?
 
I commend your patience, I'd be ripping my hair out by now. Since you said it was nearly fired up before, it could be idle too low. Try turning idle screw anti-clock noting where it was. It is a flat head screw in top of plenum by throttle disk. It may have an anti tamper bung on it.
Have a sniff of the dipstick to check for petrol contamination in the sump, it can happen with all this failed cranking
 
haha thanks, with work going quiet and losing the gf lately this has been then only thing keeping me sane right now just tinkering away!

Going to have a full day on it to orrow and go through all the wiring again to make sure everying is connected up correctly which i think it is. Will have a go with the idle screw, i shall keep you posted, thanks for the help so far though.
