hi had rrsport 3.0 tdv6 rebuilt few months back and two new turbos, just to see if any advice on how to bed it in or if its still needed beyond the 1000 mile mark, iv kept it below 2k since done and let it warm up 2-3 mins and cool down before shutting off norm a minuet, and got the 1000 mile oil and filter change this week anything else i should do from the 1000 mark onwards?
 
The engine was actually rebuilt?
If so my advice though harsh, is sell it whilst it is still running.

what makes u think that? had one done few years back 3.6 v8 same lr specialist, still going today was a complete rebuild, also got the same years warranty with it and not worried about it blowing up at all, just wondering if anyone is doing anything different on the breaking in

Totally different engines.
 
Just extra oil changes - don't use any 'flushing additive', they only accelerate wear. As an aside, also check the filter drain spring-loaded valve hasn't moved or become detached when you change the oil filter, they can lead to reduced oil pressure.
I'm sure you already know, oil grade & oil specification are not the same thing, both need to be correct - especially for DPF equipped vehicles.

yeah got that also dpf was removed a long while back egrs blanked, turbo drain pipe updated and remapped, 1000 mile service will be next week so hopefully my local lr specialist will know what there doing…… hopefully 🤦🏻
 
Totally different engines.
Actually, they're not - both were developed at the same time with a common architecture as part of the Gemini JDPA between Ford & PSA, they were further refined into the 3.0l TDV6 & the 4.4 TDV8 variants.

Somehow I doubt any remappers have the same know-how and skills as an entire powertrain development and test department - or the static & dynamic testbeds to confirm their changes... Not withstanding any emissions changes, it can put a lot of stress on the bottom end of any engine, let alone one with known issues. Good luck!

With EGR & DPF delete I take it, which will also remove all the EGT safeguards and limits designed to protect the turbos from overheat. Most remaps work in one of two ways, either manipulate the intake air temperature or offset the fuel rail pressure - both will raise the amount of fuel injected (similar to a DPF regen cycle) for a given throttle input, which also increases the EGT, particularly in variable speed traffic - but because the EGT is ignored, the engine protection supervisory function is also disabled.
 
Where I work most of the vehicles have been remapped for economy or power
Apart from one the rest have had issues of one way or another all relating to the remap, invluding two engine failures
Most annoying was one the other day with a remap that delete any faults as they occur so as not to put the dashboard warning light on.
Which makes it a real bugger to find out what is actually wrong with it!
 
I suppose it depends on the engine and remap.
Something with a lot of engineering overheard can be safely remapped by a competent tuner.

Volvo offered a remap for their five cylinder diesels with full warranty. The remap was done by their in-house tuners, polestar. Who are now a manufacturer in their own right. The five cylinder is a good tough engine that lasts very well.

The lion tdv6 isn't such an an engine.

ouch, did you know by getting rid of the egr you in fact make the engine temps higher as the exhaust gas helps to reduce emissions but helps to cool down the intake as there is less oxygen, i used to think it was best to get rid of the egr. but when i read up on it reducing combustion temps i see its not worth removing, and not only that it can cause further issues down the track as its not running as it was designed to. i think you alos increase emissions output with no egr as now it runs hotter you dont want a diesel to have very hot combustion it leads to a whole host of issues. you best bet is dont own a vehicle with egr.
