Hi im offically out of ideas, maybe someone can help.Had problems with car stalling if dropping below half a tank.i changed the lift pump unit in the tank with no problems. Car started fine and ran for awhile and stalled, then would not start.i can hear the lifter pump buzzing in the tank and another pump at the rear humming for around 20 seconds when the ignition is turned on. Fuel seems to be getting to the front, as i can hear it gurgling at the front of the car near the filter for 20ish seconds when ignition is on.i can also see fuel running through the clear pipe coming out of the filter in the engine bay when its priming cycling on and off air then trickle of fuel down the pipe and then air again over and over till the priming stops.ive tried filling the filter with fuel but no difference, ive cracked the front 2 injecter unions off and some fuel comes out but not much.i tried pumping diesel through the pipes and did manage to get fuel coming out at a fair flow but still wouldnt start and reverts back to what a said above, gurgling noise and air trickling fuel in the pipe over and over.

have you tried it with some easy start just to see if it fires?
It sounds like the fIp is not producing the pressure to operate the injectors or you have air leak the system
is the stop solinoid working
is the filter clean?
there is a drain at the bottonm of the filter check to see if any water in system

Thanks for the suggestions,it ran before i changed the in tank pump. Whats the best method of removing the air from the system?

.......

Diagnostics.

Fuel leak allowing air into the system?

If it ran before you did something then it is probable that the thing you did has caused the issue.
Which suggests the source of the air is:
1: an item you have renewed is faulty
2: the fuel pipe(s) union(s) you disturbed aren't sealing & allowing air in
3: the fuel pipe(s) have damage allowing air in.
IIRC there is a post somewhere from someone with the same issue of not running below half a tank & is a common issue on these.

I have filled the pump with a new syringe for filling gearboxes.when priming it seems to gurgl and empty the filter and just replace with air, the car doesnt even cough ive also noticed what looks like smokey diesel vapour im the tank and at the front in engine bay when ive been trying to get air out is this normal? The only 2 pipes disturbed are the 2 pushfit plastic connectors on the tank pump.i wasnt sure if the part was faulty or im just doing something wrong.Probably a silly question but if both pushfit connector are removed would the pump in the tank be powerfull enough to push fuel out of the top were the feed connector fits to?

It's a ballache but if you've still got the old pump then you could refit it & see if it runs as it did before anything was disturbed - appreciating the low fuel issue you hoped this would cure.

Unfortunately on removing the old one it got damaged, im guessing with it starting first of all it ran off what was in the filter and replaced that with air.Unfortunately to looks like the new pump could be faulty

Never worked on this model but it does sound like you have not connected something properly or connected something incorrectly.

These were the only pipes removed

It has to be pulling air in somewhere, there is I believe a second pump near the wheel arch, if the pipes you removed are not sealing and the intank pump is faulty, that second pump could be pulling in air rather than fuel

Thanks yeh i completely agree ill take it back out and have a proper check, at least i know their isn't a special bleeding procedure

Thanks for all the help it turned out to be the new part that was faulty, fitted the new part and filled the filter again with fluid and it started right up!
