Hi Guys, the 2nd row of seats in my 2000 TD5 are not working properly. the problem arises when i try roll the seats forward for more loadspace.

the seatbacks will come down using the red levers just fine, once I get there the black straps on the floor do nothing, the seats remain bolted to the floor no matter how much persuasion is given! :( Hasn't been a massive inconvenience so far, but I know in the future I will need them to be able to move all the way forward..

any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I haven't got the folding rear seats in mine but this is from the owners manual:
Stowing the seats
NOTE: Before stowing a seat, ensure that the drinks tray to the side of the seat has been emptied, and that the seat belt buckle is folded down to prevent it from becoming trapped between the backrest and cushion.
1. Push the backrest release lever forward to unlock the backrest.
2. Fold the backrest fully forward.
3. Turn the twist grip (moving part of the bar on the back of the seat) fully forward to release the floor latch, and start to lift the seat from the loadspace floor.
4. Continue lifting, at the same time turning the seat into a vertical position.
5. Push the seat firmly into the vehicle side, ensuring that the seat has engaged fully with the securing catch.
Not sure if its helps or not?

i had this with mine the one seat is a bit of a bitch if you pull strap by hand and wiggle seat up and down it might unlock mine did. the twist the handle is a shyte idea

Sorry guys, I should have made this clearer, this is the middle row of seats, the three back seats behind the driver and passenger, not the flapdown boot seats. It was actually while freeing up the boot seats I realised the middle row didn't fold up as they should!

Still, rather push my disco than drive a jeep!

OK; is the locking mechanism on the seats moving at all? Mine just release easily as soon as you give the strap a good tug. The catch was sticky at first but a dosing of WD40 followed by some ordinary general purpose grease sorted it.

It does sound as though it's the type of thing that perhaps hasn't actually been moved for a long time on this vehicle, if ever. No doubt a combination of water (there has been the odd leak in the odd Land Rover), half sucked sweeties, something leaking down the back from the shopping in the boot and other items have combined to give the mechanism an immovable quality. Thankfully the mechanism is fairly robust, one of the things on TD5's that don't often go wrong. So some elbow grease, leverage and perhaps the judicious use of that universal tool, the hammer, could do the trick.

If things go wrong, just two things:

1. The parts will be available from every broken Disco TD5.

2. I accept no responsibility if things go wrong.

Just soaked the catches with WD40 and grease, will give it some time to work it's magic and try in the morning.. :scratching_chin:

I had this issue, after pushing and pulling for about 20 minutes, I figured out where all the clamps clips and seat belt holders were, and gave a huge heave, it moved, now it moves freely was jammed on center seat seatbelt was in the way

Thanks for the replies. I got the middle bench seat out today after a bit of dismantling. It seemed that the well in the carpet where the center latch mechanism clamps to the floor was so packed with dirt and trash that it might have gummed up the lock. It may be good preventative for D2 folks to make sure that stays vacuumed out.

There may have been a quicker and less destructive way to get it out, but as I am pulling the seats permanently to install some diy drawers/sleeping platform, I did a good bit of prying and cracking of some of the plastic seat bottom but didn't mind.

Steps:
1) Remove the (2) Torx T50 front bolts below the carpet that hold the seat to the floor.
2) Remove the (2) Torx T27 bolts holding the pivoting spring mechanisms at the front of the seat above the bolts you just pulled. The lock nut is a 10mm. I used a hammer and pliers to beat the bolt out once the nut was removed. The spring releases a little tension.

3) Pry the seat front up to give you enough room to work on the jammed center latch. Throughout the dismantling, I continued to try to trip the latch with a screwdriver, pulling the release handle and rocking but it wouldn't release so I continued the tear down. Use a T40 socket to remove the front bolt in the latch mechanism.

4) Access the second T40 bolt from the back of the seat. The plastic seat bottom will require a bit of prying and compression to get the socket on the bolt and will crack easily if you overdo it. After you remove the second T40 bolt the lock mechanism falls out and you can lift the seat away.
