Anyone got any experiences of fitting 265 70s on Disco 1?

I was going to add a 2" lift kit at the same time and some extended bumpstops, I really DO NOT want to catch bodywork on full articulation.
Has anyone got any experience of this? Key things...

Will the gearing be OK?
Will it muller the acceleration?
What will happen to top/cruise speed? Will I forever be changing down to 4th on hills at 70? (300 Tdi)
How drastically is steering lock affected?

I've got 265/75 on mine with a 3" lift.

The arches needed cutting, if yours is a 5 door (300Tdi = 5 door!) that also means cutting the rear doors as well, allow £200 for a set of fibreglass arches, plus fitting if your not up to it. Fitting is a days work at least.

The wheels will rub on the radius arms on full lock, there are three ways to solve this. either adjust the steering stops (free) out or add some wheel spacers (£180+vat for good ones) or new rims with a bigger offset (£100+ per corner). Adjusting the stops reduces our turning circle, increased offset or spacers will decrease it.

I haven't found a marked difference in acceleration or hill climbing ability but then I've got a V8. The speedo was supposed to read 9% slow but in reality it is now spot on according to my GPS speedo device.
 
With 265 / 70 tyres the acceleration will be a little slower, but nothing to write home about if your engine is in good nick.

The revs at cruising speed will be lower, but as for having to change down for hills, that depends on what tread pattern you go for. An off road tread will creat much more drag and you will suffer on hills at speed, but then off road tyres a cr#p at high speed anyway.

If you dont want to loose any steering lock you will have to get the tyres fitted on off-set rims or fit wheel spacers. This of course puts them nearer the body work. A 2" lift should be high enough but you may want to consider trimming the body work a little round the arches. The best thing to do would be to get an arch extension set, this will be good for 3 reasons.

1. They look kool.

2. They will allow you to trim the arches back plenty for your chosen size of tyre.

3. They will extend the body work outward to cover the extra width of the wider whels and tyres
 
i have 265.75/r16 AT (not very deep tread) on my disco with a 30mm lift and they catch the arches(fine for on road stuff). also some other guys wth discos(dont know if they were lifted) were catching arches with 235.85/r16.
