for hot weather operating (high temps ) works wonderful, old high mile engine, low oil pressure, oil leaks, etc associated with old engines works wonderful, come winter and it makes a diesel start harder, so needs to be changed to a lower weight oilHi All, looking for some advice please. could do with putting a couple of litres in my 86 2.5TD 90. My uncle recommends using 20W50 but everything in the internet says 10W 40 or 15 W 40.
My uncle is pretty old school but generally he knows his stuff.
what do you guys think?
not true, the temps a engine operates in is more critical.20/50 is for the non turbo engines. The turbo requires a thinner grade oil. If the engine is very worn you may get away with it. But better to stick to the recommended grade.
Cheers Thor. That’s basically why he said. It’s hot and hilly here at the minute so sounds ideal. I’ll get a full service come Oct and ask them to change it to recommended then ready for winterfor hot weather operating (high temps ) works wonderful, old high mile engine, low oil pressure, oil leaks, etc associated with old engines works wonderful, come winter and it makes a diesel start harder, so needs to be changed to a lower weight oil
