Hi Folks,
So, the landy was sent to get a rebuild on the gearbox, all done, ran sweet as a nut then 3 days later nothing. It held the key in the ignition and wouldn't release it and wouldn't turn over.
It's been in the garage for months now with no joy after tracing cables, gearbox back out and all checked out, dash out, door cards etc. several ''experts'' have looked to no avail. apparently a code came up related to the ignition ecu which im waiting on confirmation of the code number.
At our wits end trying to get it fixed as it belonged to a family member who passed and has sentimental value otherwise we'd have given up by now.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

It can be frustrating with issues like these, but we'd need to know a lot more about what has been checked, to be able to even guess at the issue.
It could be as simple as a fuse, of which the engine bay fuse box is right above the gearbox, so could have been knocked when the gearbox work was done.
These vehicles are very complicated, and so the slightest bit of incorrect diagnosis can send you down a rabbit hole.
I'd start with simple stuff like the battery. These vehicles don't tolerate a weak battery, which can cause all sorts of odd issues once they begin to loose capacity. Basically if the battery is over 4 years old, it's fit for recycling, and a new high power battery is required.

Having the fob stuck in the dock can be the dock module itself, or the key has some damage on the tiny locking tabs on the sides.
There's a particularly way to remove the fob if stuck, and pulling the fob out simply damages the dock, which then requires replacement.
I can't see the point in removing the dash or door cards, the latter having absolutely nothing to do with the fob authentication, or anything else engine related.

I'd like to see what codes are stored using Land Rover's diagnostic equipment (SDD), as generic readers aren't much use on these vehicles when issues like this occur.

So the battery is good and charged, all fuses are good and power is going to where it needs to,the fob dock was changed for a new one and the module also and recoded to the vehicle.
I want to see the codes myself, they had trouble connecting to ecu's all over the car and to me its all pointing to a can bus issue, either a faulty or dead ecu or damaged wiring.
There have been several high end diagnostic computers used to diagnose and nothing is sticking out other than the fault to the ignition ecu, tomorrow i'll be able to get the codes from him.
Its not local to me where the car is and will be bringing it back in the next couple of weeks and having a look myself as i'm an electrician and automation technician so i'm good with wiring. Just wondering if there's any common known fail points along the canbus so i can narrow it down hopefully.
 
most are connecting, the gearbox ecu wasn't detectable but now is and now there's a problem reading the ignition ecu
 
i pressume so, this is what the mechanic has said, i haven't seen the codes myself yet
It's a strange description, as a diesel doesn't have an ignition ECU. These vehicles have an electronic diesel controller, or engine control module.
