Hello everyone,
Newbie here, sorry, at my wits end with this problem.
Story so far, car was suffering with reduced performance light (red) coming on, done 120K miles, so it went into LR and had all the belts done and associated rollers etc. They traced a fault to the high speed fuel pump, so they changed it, tested it, light came on again. So they removed all the injectors, because they said there was a lot of black smoke coming from the exhaust, said they were dirty, re-furbed all and replaced one (faulty apparently). Tested again, light stayed off, collected the car after a £4k bill, ran for two days EMS light came on (amber), took it back as performance in the low rev range (below 2000) was really poor, seems like fuel starvation, delay when you push accelerator, hill starts impossible (electronic parking brake) because of the delay. Arranged to take car back, on the day the light went out but performance was still the same. They put on their machine nothing in CPU, test drove agreed to be sluggish. Cleaned all fuel lines out, cleaned tank, checked everything said it was ok, took car back. Light came back on the following day, delay problem still there. The light seems to come on and go off in random patterns, sometimes 2 days, then stays on for a day, then off for a week, then back on, but the delay seems to always be there. If you ease off the pedal, then gently press it seems better, then all of a sudden it will be fine & run sweet. On motorways its perfect, average fuel consumption 30MPG, no smell of fuel all as it should be. When its running properly its like a rocket, pickup in 4th, 5th & 6th is excellent, again low rev range, rubbish, steep hills impossible. Took back again to LR they found a split in the turbo hose, hooray, replaced another £200, two days later fault back yet again. I'm rapidly running out of money now does anyone have any ideas PLEASE.
Many Thanks

Do you know the fault codes stored? Which garage did you take it to?

Without knowing the fault codes stored it’s very difficult to give pointers

Hi td4van
Thanks for the reply, firstly I forgot to mention the LR4 is the commercial version & manual, I know that shouldn't make any difference though. The last works carried out at Guy Salmon LR in Maidstone were (new key and KVM module, as the battery kept draining for no reason, fault rectified). The car is now with me in Cyprus (working) and goes to the main Land Rover dealer in Nicosia (Char). They replaced the Turbo back in 2017 and its been alright ever since, until this initial fault appeared.

With regards to fault codes not sure about the ones that related to the red warning light (restricted performance) but that the strange thing, last time they had it (amber light EMS) there were no faults in the memory and the light wasn't on. But it doesn't make any difference as the sluggish performance is still there even when the light is off, but it is also intermittent, good days and bad days. LR Cyprus also had the POWERTRAIN engineers over to check out all the electronics, they were fine and they also checked all harnesses and connections.

I did experience a problem in 2016 where LR Maidstone found it to be a EGR valve problem, which they changed, does anyone think it could be that?

UPDATE: Light still on, so took to a local garage (not LR) with diagnostic equipment, they got the following codes P045C and P0407. He removed the housing that supports the Gas Recirculation Sensors A & B, middle of engine bay on the top, which splits in two and goes off to the two EGR Valves. All looked ok, linkage was fine, air paddle free moving, put it all back together again, cleared faults and test drove. Worked perfect no delay, drove 5 miles, stopped and left for 5mins, returned, started ok, drove off ok, went to overtake, delay back, but not as bad and no EMS light. Can anyone advise on the next course of action, should I have sensors A&B replaced first or does this sound like the EGR Valves?

sounds like a sticking egr valve best way is to block off the egr system and then see what happens.it could also be a problem with the turbo.
