Hi all
It is time to change the cam belt & tensioner on my 200TDI. On ringing around I am offered various unpalatable Chinese/Britpart options... Can you tell me who is the OEM manufacturer of the tensioner, or at least a reputable make? Also is Dayco the OEM/reputable belt manufacturer?

Like all motor manufacturers, Land Rover would have used what they could get, or what was the cheapest, while they were building the vehicles.
And as the vehicles are now near on 40 years old, many other makes will have been fitted to them over time.
The term OEM is actually used to mean " OEM quality" by parts suppliers, rather than a particular make.
Dayco stuff has always worked fine for me.
 
The last time I did the belt and tensioner I used Land Rover parts from the local dealer. I am looking to save some cash by buying genuine OEM without the LR mark-up.
Unfortunately in terms of Land Rovers the term 'OEM' is meaningless...
Most cam belt kits marketed as OEM consist of a Dayco belt and an unknown tensioner - hence my question. Buying a substandard tensioner could be a very expensive mistake.

buy them from turner engineering they will be good parts,though ive never had an issue with dayco and oem
 
Ive used the britpart kits 3 times with no issues, Iirc they had a dayco belt, but no idea who made the tensioner and pulleys?

Britpart now supply a lot of OEM parts with the G at the end of the part number. last kit I fitted was dayco belt and britpart OEM tensioner, no problems so far.
 
Dont read too deeply into OEM, or OE, People word it to mean what ever they like, Turners are reputable unlike a few I have bought from, another company is Off Road Rovers in Suffolk who might be able to help, they have gotten me proper original equipment before and have gotten me genuine for a little less than Land Rover charged. Have you approached Land Rover and got a quote for genuine from them? You might be surprised. Some stuff direct from Land Rover isnt that expensive.
 
I was supplied “INA” tensioner and idler in my 200tdi kit, both labelled as genuine. As mentioned, OEM can be a bit misleading and can sometimes be used to describe a company who may have made original equipment for the car you have, but not necessarily even the part you’re looking for!
