Just putting this question out there 200tdi v2 the 300tdi ? Is there really that much differance? and if you have a 200tdi is it an easy swap to the 300tdi.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I very new to the Land Rover mark.
Thanks in advance.

As gently as I can put it .. why don't you search and read the forum.

This has been discussed ad-infinitum and there's no general concensus. I like 300's and swear by them, mate's like 200's and swears by them .. We all swear at them from time to time.

As gently as I can answer you, I work long hours and have a young family so the days of trailing through pages and pages of information on the internet have sadly finished, I just thought people may give me their opinons and perhaps some pointers......But thank you for reply.

It all boils down to personal preference. I can't fault either of them. I like them both immensely.

Are you looking to do a conversion? Do you own a land rover? Are you looking to buy one?

Are you handy with the spanners or as you are so short of time will you throw it at a mechanic.

I have a 200tdi in my 90 and a 300tdi in my Disco. They both have their issues but are fine. If you are buying, go for the one with the best chassis, bulkhead etc...

But seriously if you have that little time you should know that a lot of my time is spent maintaining servicing and getting neglected kit back into order following the lack of maintenance from previous owners.

there's some good stuff here if you need more perspective https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=200tdi+vs+300tdi they are expensive if you get it wrong or have to rely on mechanics so it's worth doing some research to know if it will work for you and your family

you'll find that we are all in the same boat, and you won't get a complete answer this way. (it's not as simple as dropping one in for the other) like everything, you need to do a bit of research; if you cba then buy something already done.

If you into saving time, searching for topics that have already been discussed will yield the answer a lot faster and in more detail than starting a new thread and waiting for replies.

200tdi until I die.

Just an additional note. In my personal opinion, a 300tdi is only miles better if it is mated to its proper gearbox (i.e. the R380). If not, a 200 will be just fine. Driving a Land Rover with an R380 feels so much better.

300 is for gentlemen of the fairer sex if you get what I mean?
200 is the dogs danglies.
In truth both are old hat and underpowered no matter what fanciful things people tell you about them pulling 20 ton up the eiffel tower in top gear!

:D ok using that logic where would you place a 200tdi with a 300tdi turbo manifold on it?

The 200 is now a pretty old engine, and some on here have reported difficulty getting a replacement head. As 300s were produced for some time later, they may be a better bet for that reason.
Depending on what engine is in your land rover at the moment, you chassis may need altering for a conversion. e.g. 2.5 N/A or 2.5 td to 200 tdi, same engine mounts, the same conversion to a 300 looks more involved.

I have only had and driven a 200 tdi and I think they are great. it just keeps going without and fuss. People say they are under powered. Maybe on a long hill, but in the forest or desert you just drop down into Low and it pulls itself out of anything.
I suppose it all comes down to what you want it for. I'm told TD5's are much better on the road. I use mine as my daily drive here in the French countryside. it works for me. I have done a couple of long trips in it. To the UK 1000K each way from the south of France and to Spain( 1900 K each way) when we went to Morocco. Cruised at 110 KPH without any problems. a bit noisy, but that is part of the Defender experience. It's going again next year. Mine was the only 200tdi. There were three other 300tdi's and a P38. I had no trouble keeping up with them. The P38 was faster on the motorway and left me for dust. What I think I like about the 200tdi is it seems almost bullet proof and easy to maintain. You could probably say the same about the 300. From what I can see 200tdi's appear to becoming rare so you might be able to find a 300 in better condition. You might enjoy the attached. Taken from inside my 200tdi in soft sand.

This always make me wonder what we did before the Internet and Forums when requiring info on our cars, it didn't take long and the family didn't suffer, but believe it or not the Internet has the facility which is quick and very very quick if u have high speed broadband to assist your 'trawling.. :)
