Yup doing the final disconnection tonight (with photos for those who like pictures :rolleyes: ) and a final feel up of the bellhousing (fnar fnar!) to make sure I haven't missed any bolts and studs. :D

but if i were you i would replace the rear crank seal on the tdi lump as well.

I did a 200tdi conversion into my 90 in february, and then about a month ago it started ****ing oil out between the flywheel housin and bellhousin on the gearbox. so i had to drop the gearbox to replace the rear crank seal! bit of a pain really, although i took the opportunity to fit the disco transfer box as well which i had been planning on doing for a while.
 
Last nights attack on the 110 was
Fuel filter removed. I snipped the return pipe.

Undid teh main fuel pipe to the lift pump.

Removed the brake vacuum hose

and undid the last 2 bellhousing bolts

So apart from the starter motor wiring it's ready to come out :D
 
get yerself a nice slim but strong pry bar ready for splitting the GB and engine cos they is usually stuck together with magic invisible glue

and have someone stood on the rear cross bar of yer hoist when it takes the weight
 
I have a feeling this one will come apart quite easily as all the bolts I have removed from the engine bay so far have been clean. It looks like this engine has been replaced in the recent past.
When they did they didn't do a very tidy job of the wiring and didn't bother connecting the water temperature sender as it was the other end of the engine.

another job to add to yer list while everything is out is to undo the heater and clear out all of the crap that tends to gather around the ickle rad - and soak it in some CH rad flush - makes a lot of difference to how well the cabin heating works
 
Cabin heater worked really well, as did the one in my 109. But I will be flushing out the read, intercooler and cabin heater anyway. Good thinking!The list of jobs has been added to my spreadsheet of tasks.

Not decided on a leccy fan yet. I'll see how hot the engine does or doesn't get, with and without the viscous fan.

it'll be fine most of the time without a fan but what happens if you need to drag a few ton up the M6 or do anything thats going to get the engine working hard ? - jump out and fit one ?

i tend only to change the intercooler to turbo pipe as i can't see how else to do the plumbing without buying a new length

i've also started putting a tee in the turbo actuator pipe and running a 2-3mm flexi pipe up to the dash as it's another arse of a job to fit when you get round to fitting a boost guage (and you will eventually) - dont forget to blank it off untill you do fit a guage

I don't do any heavy work with the 110, but just in case I'll carry the viscous fan in the back.

i tend not to extend just replace the pipework - you'll also find that the viscous fan will foul the PS relay unless you use a disco bellhousing and swop all of the GB linkages around so the engine sits forward
