Yeah not worth replacing, new ones are £££££

I just wrapped me down pipe with exhaust wrap. It’s been fine.

Cheeky little thread this, my heat shield is broken at the bottom fixing and she rattles. Word on the strasse is the heat generated could damage the paint on yer hood, yet other say this is on old wives tale?

What's the real truffe?

I have never had a heat shield since the rebuild, 3 years ago. I have driven it hard and worked it hard off road at low speeds. My bonnet has never gotten evenly remotely warm. I worried about it for a good while and used to deliberately get the turbo hot (4th up hill accelerating hard etc) then immediately pull over and check. I could barely discern any difference. When the bonnet is wet after rain etc it doesn’t dry any faster above the turbo either.

3 years later and the paint on the bonnet is utterly unaffected and I don’t worry about it anymore.

However, ye have wrapped yer downpipes - do you reckon this has helped keep the temp down?

I have two 200tdi defenders one had a new heat shield fitted two years ago. The other has not got a heat shield and car was rebuild last year there is not a noticeable difference to justify a £200 heat shield

Yeah possibly, it was fitted from the start so I have no way of knowing.

Wrapping the down pipe coat about 20 quid lol
