Hi all

This is my first post ive viewed the forum quite a lot but now ive just got myself a 1992 Defender 90 200tdi Im joining to ask for some advice and hopefully contribute going forward.

Hopefully someone can help with an issue I have regarding the temperature of my defender engine..

When I drive the car even for 20/30 miles the temp gauge only moves up by a couple of mm and doesnt get out of the bottom of the solid white area of the temp gauge? Even if i leave it running stood still it only moves up about another mm and stll not out of the bottom of the gauge..

The defender had a new cambelt installed before I picked it up and has done 87000miles if it helps.

I was thinking thermostat? Any suggestions greatly recieved!!

Im aware that these engines run cold but ive driven a few and they all seem to get a bit warmer than this and there is not even any slightly warm air from the heater when on full

Cheers

both my 300 tdi disco and 200 tdi series 3 run their temp gauges in the middle of the gauge and both warm up within a few miles. My disco was like yours when i first got it, new thermostat cured it. the heater is toasting hot.

Thanks for the reply, I thought it was probably the thermostat so changed it this morning, took it for a long run and the engine warmed up quickly and the temp guage stayed dead on middle and the heaters working well!! Good Times!

In case anyone is interested the thermostat I took out was stuck open, it was an 88degree jobbie and I replaced it with an 82degree after a bit of research on here, this seems to work spot on

Cheers
