Does Anyone have any idea as to what this could be?

tried lots of things and no change, tried checking the tappets, and swapped the head for another but no change

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

When you say tried to check the tappets what exactly do you mean?
If not sure google rule of nine

wish mine was so clean how did you get the castings to come up so well?

mine has a quieter rattle than that and I'm looking to change my lift pump as it can idle really rough for the first start of the day and it shuts down with a bump that shakes the whole truck. unfortunately I can't suggest anything but I am interested in what the solution is as I suspect mine might well get this loud soon

I just rebuilt the engine, and the timing was perfect when I set it and it starts instantly no bother

I checked the valve clearances three times

I also had a spare vaccum pump lying around so I swapped them and made no difference

And to get it so clean I used engine gunk and elbow grease :)

my disco when running (see rac fred) has the same sound coming from the other side of the engine at the front roughly where the cam followers are.
I used a piece of hosepipe as a listening tube to locate the noise, even bought a stethoscope with a pointer thing on it but never was as good as my hosepipe listening tube.

been like it for a couple of years now...
got to take the head off to change the cam followers i believe..
up till now never got done...but....lol

That really doesn't sound right!! I've no idea what it is you've changed most of the things..

So it started making this noise after you fitted the new water pump??
Was it by chance a britpart pump?? I've heard of their pumps bearings going after even a weeks use..

If the water pump is driven by the v belt. take it off and run it for a short time to see if the noise is still there.
